I wanted to be able to take photos of my models with nothing in the background. No matter how much I tried it was difficult to achieve this in my home. So I decided to buy a relatively cheap Photo light box from Temu.
I chose this one from Clocteck on the Temu website as it had good reviews and the cost with Tax was $39.87. Postage was free. It took about a month to arrive from China.
It arrived in a fairly bashed-up box with only bubble wrap to protect it as seen in this photo. However, it survived the journey undamaged.
My Initial impression was it seemed better quality than I expected for the price.
What you get is the lightbox, some colored background sheets, an instruction set, and a light defuser sheet (more on this later)
The lightbox uses a USB cable for power. You will need to provide a USB plug to power it.
Connected to the cable is the light controller. It turns the light on and off, allows three brightness levels, and a choice of 1 or 2 light circles.
Setup is extremely easy and you can choose the background color from the backdrop sheets provided. You can shoot photos from the front or the top.
I was initially confused as to how to use the white sheet with a hole in it. I could find nothing in the instructions. However. I realized later it is used to diffuse the lights so you don’t get glare from them.
THOUGHTS AND CONCLUSION
The quality and the number of colored backdrops provided were far better than I expected for the price. As long as you are not heavy-handed with it I think it should last a long time. It is certainly perfect for my intended use of photographing my models. After a little use, I did wish I had brought a bigger one as I think bigger 1/35 models might be a little tricky to photograph and stay within the boundaries of the background color sheets.
This is perfect for taking pictures that make your models shine but I would recommend spending a little more money and getting a bigger size.
